After a very very short night and travelling 17 hours in total, we arrived at 21.30 in Cape Town. It was a smooth flight and Miro enjoyed it a lot. We would never have believed in advance that she could have stayed in one place relatively quiet for such a long time, but she did!
When we arrived in Cape Town the boarder control had an endless queue. But travelling with a buggy has it advantages and we were guided immediately to a special area with only one couple before us! Great!
By the time we arrived at the luggage carrousel ALL our luggage was there already and Jan from Loevensteyn was waiting for us.
We were beaten by the time we arrived at our cottage, I do not think it took more than 5 minutes before we all fell asleep.
It’s now 16.44 the following day and we are comfortably installed in our cabin cottage. It is a wooden cottage against a mountain, with a wooden deck overlooking the whole of Cape Town.
It is nice house, we have a little back garden, a terrace, a living/dining area, two en suite bedrooms and fully equipped!
Maria from the guesthouse took us shopping this afternoon and one hour later we have all the “vitals” in the house. Miro has plenty of soft buns to eat with ham or jam and Wim already has a stack of South African wine bottles.
While I am blogging I am enjoying a cabernet sauvignon from Allesverloren and this brings you directly in a nice holiday spirit. It smells sunny even though the outside temperature is not more than ‘13’ degrees.
When we arrived last night in our house, memories came back from when we went to sleep over with our grandparents: no heating upstairs, single glass, the smell of moist cold… The heaters were on, but not long enough yet to give a warm feeling. The bedding was: lots of flannels, big warm blankets… which has a certain romance to it if you look it at the bright side…
No, the temperature is nice, even though we need to keep our fleece on… but hey this is far more Kyoto friendly than what we do at home…
Miro is currently taking an afternoon nap, but when she wakes up we will be heading towards the Waterfront and enjoying the South African cuisine!
Tomorrow the alarm clock will be set at 9 as we have our first important appointment at 11 with the social worker, so Wim and Miro still have two hours to really wake up…
